Ha! I was pretty inspired when I saw a squirrel eating a chicken finger out of a dumpster! That must count. ;-)

You mean you're not inspired by random bits of left behind food? Pfft, and you call yourself a writer!

Watching people from afar does have some advantages over being up close and having a conversation. Seeing a person's mannerisms (especially when they are in a rush or carrying a lot ;-)) is especially interesting. Thanks for commenting!

Hi Brian :) I also like to observe what people say and do during "small talk" situations so I can have more ideas for what to say myself!

I think so. It lets me observe people's mannerisms and speech patterns in ways that I can't when I have conversations (which are also helpful).

To remove your question from a literary context, yes. It's great to see what other people around you are doing so you can take notes as to what you do and don't like about them in any given situation and keep those mental notes for yourself. Of course, it's also just fun to make fun of strangers behind their backs sometimes.

Going back to your real question, I'd imagine that inspiration is everywhere, so why not?

As a writer who chooses not to outline, I spend most of my hobby time working out ideas and finding inspiration. Life experiences (hobbies included!) do give richness to our work. :) Thanks for your comment!

Aspiring author or no, your life and hobbies are what inform your writing.. I get the impulse to renounce things that won't help you achieve your writing goals ("you" being indeterminate here) but without the rest of your life and interests to inform your writing you're going to have a complete, but not very rich, piece of writing at the end.

That said--I dig the comic. :)

If I gave up my hobbies I would definitely have more time for writing; OTOH, my hobbies help keep my creative juices flowing. Hopefully I won't have to choose! Thanks for the smile. :-)
